Was Inter's win over Barcelona the greatest semi-final of all time?

Davide Frattesi’s extra-time goal decided a Champions League semi-final for the ages as Inter Milan beat Barcelona 7-6 on aggregate after a 4-3 second leg win at the San Siro.

The midfielder slotted home in the first half of the extra 30 minutes, climbing on top of the metal barriers to celebrate with the jubilant – and relieved – home fans and capping of an incredible European meeting that will go down in history.

It was a tie that drew level as the highest scoring semi-final – equal to Liverpool and Roma’s own 7-6 thriller in 2018 – and entertained again after a 3-3 draw at the Estadio Olimpico de Montjuic last week.

  1. The myth of this Barca team matching the hype was entirely anhilated. When you concede more than THREE goals in succession against average sides like Dortmund and Inter this surely must tell any good coach something……….you have a problem with your center backs. I don't think we have seen a centre back so overhyped as Curbasi. He is woefully out of his level at the Champions League and has been brutally exposed as a liability who is slow, easily beaten and proven to give away penalties. If I am correct he has given away 5 this season. The bizarre decision not to play the two centre backs with pace, and experience, Araujo and Christensen has been proven to be the downfall. The Champions League failure is down to choosing Curbasi and Martinez at Centre back. They are both too slow and easily beaten. Neither are quick commanding defenders. Playing the way Flick does you need defenders who command. The defence has been a disaster. For all the attacking flair the disastrous partnership of Curbasi and Martinez struggled to compete against old slow men. The La Liga is an easy league. The Champions League brutally tells the truth. Flick made poor decisions. Why expose a 17 year old when experience is required. I am surprised someone as intelligent as Flick cannot see this fundamental truth. The truth is that they have got away with it in La liga. Where most teams are average and lack pace even the oldest and slowest team exposed Barca's defensive flaws. When 3-2 with minutes to go why not defend and close the shutters ?

  2. As a RM fan, I was hoping for Barca to fail. Aftermath, I regretted the thought. Barca, with due respect to other teams, is the only team that does not play football, they play a beautiful symphony. Inter rightfully won the game, but the game defeated Barca, and UCL lost. Not to take anything away from Inter, best of luck to Inter. I am sure Barca will walk away with the LaLiga trophy, as RM is not a match for Barca, regrettably. RM, tho, they have some of the best players in the league, Ancelotti failed the team, the club, the fans and the sport fans everywhere. Can’t wait to see the back of him soon.

  3. 💯💯I am happy and sad at the same time ….I am happy that Inter beat Barcelona, but I am so sad because I wont see the Barcelona wonder kid again playing, Lamine Yamal that I was rooting for the Ballon D'or 2025 💔💔 I wanted him to make a history by winning that Ballon D'or at that his young age ❤❤❤❤

  4. SHAME on the referee and SHAME on the VAR!!! If the VAR alerts the referee to review the penalty against Barcelona, they should also alert the referee to the foul against Inter in the 3-3 play… both the referee and the VAR didn't dare!!!

  5. As a Barca fan I’m also purely shattered right now. But a few more things need to be discussed.

    1. We desperately need a RB and a Left back who can score goals or provide deciding passes like Dani Alvez and Jordi Alba.

    2. A proper substitute for Lewandwoski like Haaland, Julian Alvarez, Isaak or Gakpo. Ferran developed a lot but he is not world class.

    3. Please sign Nico Williams. Nico and Lamine would be a nightmare for all the opponents. Raphinha is lucky enough to get Lamine who creates space for him and Balde effect. We need another dribbler like Lamine.

    4. De Jong unnecessarily holds the ball to be figured out. De Jong, Pedri, Gavi, Olmo, Fermin should be clinical and score some goals.

    5. No doubt Referee robbed us, but we had the moment to control the game from 88 t0 95 mins. IDK why Flick introduced Lewa at that crucial moment? Why not a defensive player?

    6. Szczesny did what he could possibly do, but we need more. Stegan should be back soon.

    7. Without any second thought, kick out Ansu Fati, Pau Victor, Hector Fort, Gerard Martin, Ferran Torres and Ronald Araujo.

    8. I love the high line but not at the dying moment when you are in an advantageous position.

    9. Real Madrid already sorted out their problem and are preparing for something good, Barca also should be proactive.

    10. Protect and control Lamine Yamal. Love for Pedri.

Love from Bangladesh. Visca EL BARCA.
